Directivity Evaluation of a Hemispherical Conformal Phase Array Antenna. By: Dr. Zamel A-K Al-Uzbaky

Directivity Evaluation of a Hemispherical Conformal Phase Array Antenna. By: Dr. Zamel A-K Al-Uzbaky

Abstract- Phased array antennas consist of several radiating elements arranged and interconnected to produce directional radiation pattern. A conformal antenna is an antenna that conforms to something; it conforms to a prescribed shape. Conformal phased array antenna offers a unique capability of electronic scanning of the main beam in the space by changing the phase of the exciting currents in each element of the array. Conformal Array antennas have wide application in radar and radio communication, to day arrays at microwave frequencies and above are used extensively in mobile and satellite communication systems.
In this paper cylindrical conformal array antennas are considered, some significant design parameters that affect the radiation patterns and directivity were evaluated and discussed. These parameters includes radius of the hemispher, the number of rings M, number of element radiators N in each ring as well as the spacing between the rings d, and the scanning angle , in addition to the current excitation amplitudes and phases. A MATLAB programs have been established to compute and plot the radiation patterns in polar plane and in three dimensions plane(3-D) for different design parameters. A numerical results of the directivity and half power beam width have been deduced from the antenna pattern for different. The obtained results give to the designers a suitable and optimal solution in the applications related to conformal phase array antenna .

PHASED ARRAY ANTENNA TECHNIQUES FOR MODERN COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS Thesis submitted By Zamel Abud Al-Kareem Al-Youzbaki

Abstract
Phased array antennas consist of several radiating elements arranged and interconnected to produce directional radiation pattern.
Array antennas have wide application in radar and radio communication, to day arrays at microwave frequencies and above are used extensively in mobile and sat communication systems.
The phased array antenna offers a unique capability of electronic scanning of the main beam in the space by changing the phase of the exciting currents in each element of the array.
Array antennas can be classified according to their distribution such as linear, planar, circular and conformal array.
In this thesis all types of array are considered, some significant design parameters that affect the radiation patterns and directivity were evaluated and discussed. These parameters includes shapes, dimensions of the antenna array, as well as the number of the radiating elements, in addition to the current excitation amplitudes and phases.
A mat-lab programs have been prepared to compute and plot the radiation patterns and their directivity in three dimensions and in tow dimension for various cases of the design parameters.
A numerical results of the directivity and half power beam width with the variation of the different design parameters can give the suitable and optimal solution of the array antenna design for different application.
Application of array was considered in the base station of the mobile system for an objective to increase revers link capacity by using adaptive circular array antenna.
